Kyrene School District would shutter two middle and six elementary schools next school year if the Governing Board approves a final recommendation by its Long Range Planning Committee.
The proposed closures would shut down Akimel A-al Middle School and Colina and Estrella elementary schools in Ahwatukee while repurposing Milenio Elementary into a district-wide K-5 academy for gifted students.
East of I-10, the committee proposed closing Pueblo Middle School, Kyrene Traditional Academy and Mirada Elementary in Chandler, and Mariposa and Norte elementary schools in Tempe.
